So I fell down once
and I took you all the way down
with me.

You told me you wanted me to be there
and I dared you to be there
so you told me to be there
and for once, I was.

What a long trip down
and filled with many faces
and so many places
and bottles and forgotten corners
of rooms where many bad things
would happen, with or without you.

Minutes into hours
and lines into spikes
and spikes into disease
and truth into lies
and pretty green into dying eyes
and another fucking farewell.

Tears that wouldn’t come in the light of day,
or any other time for that matter.
Because when the darkness comes
the boogeyman comes
and I will never sleep
and if I never quit running
maybe he won’t see me.

These tracks that bleed,
they did more than
fool him: they obliterated me.

Written in winter.
